"WOW"
That is all I can say about the fun, fantastic week we have had with our son, Chris. It has been non stop since he came to visit us. We picked him up last Wednesday and stayed overnight in Honolulu. We spent our first day there on Waikiki and then went over to do the tour at Pearl Harbour. We were able to go on the Sub-marine ship tour and the awesome USS Missouri Battleship tour. It is so huge. Of course, this is where the surrender papers were signed by General MacArthur and the Japanese to end World War ll. We were not able to go out to the Arizona Memorial because all the free tickets (4500 of them) we all gone by 10am.
We then headed up the North Shore where we live. We really love it up there, it really is so beautiful. We never get tired of driving around and stopping by the many, many beaches and watching the surfers and the huge waves. I really think that Ted would be very happy being a beach bum. After the wonderful week that Chris had here, I think he would love to join his Dad.
We had to take Chris to one of our very favorite places, the famous Ted's Bakery and then to Sunset Beach to eat the famous garlic shrimp plate and watch the sun set. This ended up being one of Chris's favorite places also. Every morning we ended up there for the delicious donuts.
A few other places we enjoyed seeing: Hiking in the Waimea Valley Canyon, swimning at Waimea Beach and watching the surfer dudes and the huge waves. That is what the North Shore is known for in Hawaii. We spent a day at the PCC and had a blast. It was so fun to have him meet our dear Fiji friends. We even got a private backstage tour and met some cast members from the night show.
Chris even worked into his week, three golf games. Once on the Turtle Bay Golf Course, and twice on the Kahuku Golf Course right by the ocean. I believe it was one of the highlights of his trip. There is a picture of him eating his last breakfast from you know where and on the beach. All in all, he said it was a great visit to see where his parents are living in paradise. It was so fun to be the tour guide, which you all know I love doing. We loved having him here and to show him what a wonderful place this is. Tuesday we took the long way back to Honolulu and the airport for his long trip home.
Today, Ted & I will celebrate our 49th wedding anniversary. We are taking the day off to go down the coast and go bumming and end up at The Crouching Lion for an early dinner and then go to last basketball game. Sounds good, huh. We have had a very good life and so many opportunities to do things together. We have the very best kids and grandchildren and love them dearly. We really don't know where all the years have gone, but feel very blessed that we can enjoy the very best of what life has to offer us. We wish to thank all our family and friends for their love and support in all we do. Mahalo Pat & Ted
PS: Still haven't figured out the picture order yet, so I just hope for the best

ESCAPE TO HONOLULU
On Jan. 28th we had to exchange our car in Honolulu for another rental because that is is the rule over here to change cars every 28 days. Sounded like a good excuse for us to spend the weekend in Waikiki. We stayed at the Sheraton Princess, which was lovely. It was fun to come to the big city and Ted was very happy for the interruption of school preparation. He had no classes because of testing. A few of the things we did: Went to the museum, ate at some great restaurant's, went to a movie(yes we did), did some shopping, some serious beach time on Waikiki and took a fun Catamaran boat ride and saw our very first large green turtle swimming by us. On our way back home on Saturday we stopped by the famous Aloha Stadium Swap Meet. It is huge and you certainly could spend hours there but luckily for Dad we arrived after one and they close up at three. We did find us another matching outfit for work and a few other treasures. I will probably have to find another way to get there next time. On our way home we stopped in a quaint little town of Hale'iwa and found a delicious Pizza place and then topped it off with the famous Shaved Ice with Cream. That night we went to a very exciting BYU basketball game. They are playing in a tournament and doing well. To tell you the truth we would rather be watching Rugby, but basketball is the sport over here. So I guess we will follow it. We do get to watch Marques Whippy (Paul Whippys son) play. He reminds Ted of Karl Malone.
Last week our friends, Elder and Sister Bothwell, made their way over here from Fiji. They finished their mission and decided to make a stopover here for 4 days. It was great to see them and take them to the PCC. They were very excited to see some of the Fijians students they had met in Fiji. It was a very fun day for all of us. We even got to dance again in the Fiji Village. This might become a habit for me or they might hire me (ha ha).
Last week we had another surprise visitor, Sister Una Qaqa. She came to visit her daughter over here. She is a student and got married last year and Una had not seen her for 4 years. We saw her in SLC in Dec. so we were delightfully surprised to see her here. Ted brought her out to our place for the day and I spent the day with her at our Turtle Bay Beach. She had so much fun swimming in the water and we had a picnic and spent the time just talking and talking. I found out she is the same age as our Julie and has 10 children. She is a dear friend and wonderful person. She had a great time doing something she doesn't get to do very often even in Fiji. She had to go back to SLC for 3 more weeks and then she will be going home. I bet her family will be glad to get her back home.
Our student Ward experience is going very well. It is fun getting to know them and where they are from. It is always so amazing to me how many countries these kids come from. It is so cool they have the opportunity to come to such a great school. We actually are supposed to be mentors for the ward and to be there for them when they need help but not to take over for them. But I will say the 8th Ward is doing just fine and we are very impressed. On Monday we will go to two FHE. The Mission President Peterson will speak to the Senior missionaries and volunteers and then we have been invited to the ward FHE at 9pm (hope Ted can stay up that late). We'll give it a try anyway.
Some where there will be a picture of me learning a new hobby. Ted thinks he should buy me a Ukulele. We'll see. I, also, have to try my hand at Hawaiian Quilting (no pun intended).
All is well over here. Just realized we have been here over a month now. The days seem to be going faster lately. Every day seems to be a picture perfect day. We certainly are grateful for this wonderful opportunity to be here to serve where needed. Love you all and Aloha
